It was ofcourse a proud day for Abhinav Bindra when he landed back to his country and showed his Olympic gold medal to the crowd. But amidst the huge crowd, which was present there to greet him, there was another famous personality-Amartya Sen- who enjoyed the whole show while waiting to board his plane. The Nobel laureate watched the entire show from inside his car, away from the media glare. In fact too preoccupied with the new Olympic gold medallist no one even noticed his presence. "I don't know much about the Indian team which has gone for the Olympics but this is a great occasion for all of us. My best regards to Abhinav Bindra for his great achievement," he said while enjoying the show. He further added that even though this is the first time India has won a gold medal in an individual event the country has a long way to go. "We have to compete against the European nations who are far ahead. At the same time we also have to compete against Asian nations like China and Japan," he said. On asked whether the achievement could lead to a fresh beginning for Indians in the world of international sporting events he said, "Off course it can. We have already started and this achievement sure gives the much-needed impetus. If China and Japan can win so many medals why cant India." Soon after Bindra left the airport with his family Sen too left to board his plane and again extended his congratulations to Bindra for making the nation proud. Bindra may not have known about the presence of a Noble laureate during his come back but the complements from Amartya Sen sure adds more glitter to his hard earned gold medal.
