A policeman was brutally shot in the eye for having married a girl who was not from his caste in the posh DLF area of Gurgaon late last night. Another cop, who was with him at the time of the incident, was injured in the attack by motorcycle-borne assailants.
The cop, Vikrant, was rushed to the Kalyani hospital. He has lost sight in one eye due to the bullet injury and is in a critical condition. The other cop, Sandeep, is out of danger. In his early twenties, Vikrant had got married just six months ago to a girl from another caste.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 9 pm, when the victims were returning from Faridabad in an Alto car. Suddenly, two people started shooting at them when they came out of the car to buy ice cream near the Sector 29 police station of DLF.
The cops were clueless about the attackers till this morning when they homed in on two relatives of Vikrant. Gurgaon ACP Sumit Kumar said, “The accused have been identified as Gaurav and Neeraj, brothers-in-law of Vikrant. Vikrant had an inter-caste marriage six months back and the girl’s brothers were unhappy over this.” The accused are absconding.
Doctor Mandeep at the Kalyani Hospital said, “Vikrant has lost his right eye and his condition is still critical while Sandeep is out of danger.”
Sandeep, said, “We were returning from Faridabad after completing our shift. We were not aware that some one was following us. The shooters were on a Pulsar and immediately fled the spot after the incident.”
A case has been registered.
